iOS 14.1 is out – but beware :)

There is both good news and bad news with Apple’s release of iOS 14.1 (iPadOS 14.1), which was released a few days ago.

The good news: certain video files which would not playback properly in earlier iOS 14 releases now play. Yay, Apple!

The bad news: they broke a feature of iOS that Projector uses to create image ‘thumbnails’ (*sad sigh*)

The issue with ‘thumbnails’ means that, on iOS 14.1, you will very likely see previews of your slides that contain background images with colors that do not look correct; but this flaw typically just appears for ‘still image’ backgrounds, not video backgrounds. That is the result of Apple’s iOS 14.1 bug. But all is not lost – the mismatched coloration may confuse you when operating Projector, but since the actual image file (not the ‘thumbnail’) is used for the final projection screen, you (and everybody watching the ‘big screen’) will see that the colors are all as they should be.

Apple will very likely address this latest flaw in an upcoming release of iOS 14, but I wanted to alert you all to this issue, since some of you have upgraded to iOS 14(.1) and would see the problem.
