I am putting the final touches on Update 2020.1.0, which should be available in the App Store this week. There are some important things to be aware of with this ‘final update of 2020’:
-
Update 2020.1.0 has been built with support only for iOS 12+. If you are running a device with iOS 9, 10, or 11, then you will not be able to update beyond the current 2020.0.4 version.
-
This has been done to allow Projector to use the most up-to-date features of iOS, and allows us to limit testing of these new features to fewer device / iOS variations. It is a typical software development practice, especially in the fast-changing mobile app world.
The new feature that will be available in Update 2020.1.0 is another alternative to ‘in-app’ PowerPoint conversion, which is to save your PowerPoint slideshow as a PDF file. Projector will be able to take a PDF slideshow and unpack the slide images, in a similar manner to the existing ZIP file support.
One final thing: starting January 1, 2021, Projector will require a subscription to operate. The current ‘limited functionality’ mode will no longer be available for Planning Center organizations that have not subscribed to Projector. I wanted to let everybody know this in advance, because a number of you are using Projector currently in ‘limited functionality’ mode. So – please consider subscribing to Projector if you find that it is a valuable tool for facilitating worship in the various ministries of your church. If you choose not to subscribe, that’s ok – just be aware that Projector will no longer work for you once 2020 leaves us.
